Application of glass microspheres in plastics

At present, microspheres are widely used in plastic processing industry. It is mainly manifested in the following aspects:

1 micro bead reinforced bumper special material

Automobile insurance material is the most important plastic part in automobile industry. It requires light weight and high impact resistance. Only a few units can produce it.

Now we use the micro bead material as the filler, through the new method of plastic modification, taking polypropylene resin as the main body, adding micro beads and various additives, modifier, mixing by twin-screw extruder, plasticizing, granulating, and producing the special material for automobile bumper. This special material has excellent mechanical properties, excellent chemical stability and aging resistance. This kind of special material is a special material for all kinds of automobile bumpers, especially for high-grade car bumpers. It can also be used to manufacture products with high impact resistance, such as fender, skirt guard, interior trim, deflector, etc.

2 micro bead flame retardant special material

Because the bead itself is vitreous, it is flame retardant and high temperature resistant. Although it does not decompose moisture during combustion, it can not only maintain the mechanical strength of plastic products, but also meet the requirements of UL94V-0 standard.

Because of the addition of micro bead and organic flame retardant, the plastic products can be used for a long time at high temperature, and can be used in various processing technologies. This special material can be widely used in the production of various flame retardant electrical products and other products.

3. Special material for pipe and plate modified by micro bead

For all kinds of resin such as PP, PVC and ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) plastic pipes and plates have been used in various fields. For products with high requirements, such as large diameter natural gas transmission pipe, oil pipe and various water supply pipes, in order to improve the weather resistance, corrosion resistance, wear resistance, heat resistance and impact resistance of the products, the best way is to add beads.

For this reason, researchers have developed PP, PVC, UHMWPE as carrier resin for micro bead modification of special materials. This kind of special material shows excellent strengthening and toughening effect, and has excellent quality of impact resistance, heat resistance, low temperature resistance, wear resistance, corrosion resistance and weather resistance.

4. Other applications

For a large number of plastic products, we can also develop more micro bead modified masterbatch and special materials. For example, for nylon (PA-6) products, the traditional method in the past is to add glass fiber in order to enhance the modification. For example, it is very common to add 30% glass fiber into PA. At present, the properties of PA masterbatch made from 25% micro beads and 5% glass fiber can reach the original 30% glass fiber masterbatch. However, the price of micro bead filler is only half of that of glass fiber, which can reduce the material cost. Another example is that the shuttle used in textile needs to be replaced frequently because it is not wearable. The service life of plastic shuttles filled with micro beads has been greatly prolonged.

At present, the development and application of micro bead materials is the key to promote the development of micro bead materials. Surface modification, polymer materials science and application of composite materials are the key technologies. Only by strengthening the research on this aspect, can the micro bead materials play an important role in polymer materials and industries such as plastics and rubber. In other words, inorganic powder materials can only be developed into composite materials by combining with polymer materials to achieve significant application progress.
